Mountain View Offers Something for Everyone
Mountain View offers the opportunity to go underground with guided tours at the Blanchard Springs Caverns. Located in the Ozark National Forest Crown, the caverns are open to visitors of all ages and also offer one trail that is handicapped accessible with assistance. The tours take you through water-carved passages to the world's largest flowstone and an underground river. Outside the caverns, you can take a break by the waterfall as it exits the caverns, or watch the trout in the spring fed Mirror Lake. The Ozark Interpretive Association offers maps, books and other educational materials in the Visitor Information Center where your tour will begin.
After enjoying the caverns of Mountain View, head over to the OK Trading Post where you can enjoy a horseback rides on scenic mountain trails. Take a trip to the past as you wander through the blacksmith and pottery shops and other pioneer demonstrations including crafts and folk art. If you're a musician, test your skills while learning to play the fiddle, or for the crafty person, learn how to make a turkey wing broom, or hand quilting. Trying all the activities at the OK Trading Post is sure to give you an appetite, so why not try out the country cooking at the Skillet Restaurant. Shop the tack shop or the pioneer village gift shop before settling down for a quiet evening at the Dry Creek Lodge.
Mountain View is one of few places where you can take scenic trips to the top of the mountains, and visit the world under the ground in caverns, with both experiences being within a few miles of each other. Along with these experiences, Mountain View offers a trip to life as pioneer, museums, history and most everything a person could want in a vacation. With all this and more being offered in one city, a trip to an old fashioned soda fountain fits in perfectly.
The Woods Pharmacy and Old Fashioned Soda Fountain bring the past back to life for many people. Take a break from touring and enjoy lunch ice cream treats at the early 1900 soda fountain that has been restored. After enjoying a break at the soda fountain, take time to visit the Clock Sales and Service business where pride is taken in the quality of craftsmanship of clock making and repair.
If crafts and folk music are of interest, then you need to head to the Ozark Folk Center in Mountain View. Here you'll find a unique use for a state park that offers music, crafts, live music performances and workshops that tell the story of Mountain View. You'll have the opportunity to hear fiddle tunes, see jig dances, as well as see and hear other dances and music from other cultures. Mountain View's Folk Center also offers a self-guided tour of the Center that will include the craft village. As you stroll through the center, you'll see candle making, pottery, woodcarving and many more continuous demonstrations.
