T Express (Minneapolis MN)

There’s  no doubt about how amazingly wonderful a time you will have when you have a meal in T Express in Minneapolis because this year, it was coveted with the 2009 Readers’ Choice Award. Not only do they serve up a authentic Chinese meal, the ambience makes you feel like you’re in a completely different country too. The first time we heard about this place was when a friend told us that the mouth-watering food that they ordered was through the catering services provided by this restaurant….well, it’s a tea house but they serve some of the most amazing Asian food as well.

We heard tons of good things about sesame chicken and their braised beef with mushroom. Well, looking at the menu we knew that there was more in this quaint little tea house but we were really looking for the food that we ate earlier during the event.

What’s interesting is that the restaurant, much like other restaurants in Asia, has a strong following. It’s a tea house so many of their customers drop by on a daily basis to relax and unwind, have dinner or romance their partners. The ambience is priceless too.

During peak hours, let me warn you that it can get a little hectic. We were there without calling ahead and had a head-on collision with their lunch crowd people. There was an almost manic commotion to get to their favorite table, perhaps. Despite the noise level, it was bearable and highly entertaining too.

The reason for the strong following is because basically, the locals are attuned to blander food and whatever this Minneapolis restaurant had on their menu was really refreshing. It’s always enjoyable when you eat something that you can’t wait to have more of. We knew that we were in for a big plate of whatever we ordered so, we kindly asked to share some of the food amongst each other. It didn’t make sense to waste food and the friendly staff said it was perfectly fine for us to do that and brought out large empty plates.

Everyone who has been there raves about their Sesame Chicken – I had them and although, in my personal opinion, is not as authentic as the one in many other parts of Asia, it’s reasonably good. They are so well-received that they’re opening a new chain right smack in the middle of University of Minnesota campus this year. They announced it on their website recently and we’re excited to see something so incredibly exciting.

Will I go back again? Absolutely.
